Are you your life's Architect?

Last Saturday I met a mom. We discussed ‌mindfulness for children. I suggested some books that I found very good… and then she asked me, “but will these books really help my child to meditate and be more mindful, more focused?”

And here is my answer: “The books are really helpful, but the best way to ensure that your child trains his mindfulness is to train yours first". She stopped for 30 seconds. I thought to myself,

"that's it, I've lost her, it was too direct" and finally she smiled. "Ah yes, I understand, walk the talk".

I have taught mindfulness, stress management, and emotional intelligence to children (and adults) for the last 7 years. I have met maybe over 1500 children.

I am a firm believer that self-awareness and self-regulation are at the heart of a great life that is full of success and happiness. I am a big believer that we must show our children how to be focused on what matters to us. Because if they don´t know how to do that, they will feel lost, without an inner compass.

Jim Rohn says:

“If you don't have a plan for what you want, then you will probably find yourself buying into someone else's plan and later find out that was not the direction you wanted to go. You've got to be the architect of your life.”

We can only show our children to be the architect of their lives if we really are the architect of our life.

Why are self-awareness and self-regulation the keys?

Self-awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and how your actions, thoughts, or emotions align (or do not) with your internal standards. So, it is the best way to know who you are and what you want. Self-awareness is the foundation to develop your social skills and

to being more empathetic.

The emotional brain is far faster than the rational frontal cortex. When you train it, you become more approachable, able to deal with conflict, create a nurturing environment and lead by reliable example. It is a way to be in control and not let your emotions control yourself, a way to be present and connected to your internal and external world.

Self-awareness gives you direction while self-regulation helps you to stay at the helm.

Oh great, but how to train that?

  • Train your attention. Attention is the new gold. If you don’t get your attention under control, you might get distracted by a shiny object (Shiny object syndrome is the situation where people shift focus/attention on a new or trendy idea but drops it as soon as something newer crops up) so you will just fail to develop yourself because you don´t know where to start and/or you get too easily distracted.

  • Be courageous. It is difficult to live a fulfilled life. You need to be brave and have a resilient heart to truly live your life’s purpose. We tend to self-sabotage and give in to our fears and doubts all the time.

How many ideas have you not pursued? How many dreams have you abandoned? I am sorry to say that if you stay stuck there; it is exactly down the same dead-end road that you might lead our children to.

And now you understand the heart of my business. I help you to live your purpose in life, build your awareness, to design your vision, and take action on it while giving you tools and guidance to teach your children to build their own awareness and vision.

Come start a new chapter with me ….
