3 Fundamental Principles about Communication

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

At the Freedom Catcher Academy, we work on 3 pillars:

Pillar 1:

What matters to you.

It is important to know what matters to you, not only as a parent but also as a person.

Pillar 2:

Your Career or you Life mission.

When you know it and you can live it, you feel fulfilled and empowered which makes life far more fun.

Pillar 3 :

Building a Strong Family.

Gaining strong emotional bonds with team building exercises so that you feel good about your family team!

All of these 3 aspects have one common link - Communication

Communication is important for a lot of different areas in our life. It is something that has always fascinated me, I started learning about communication from a very young age. One of my first books was: How to win friends by Dale Carnegie and then I continued my journey. I became a Chemical engineer. I had to use communication for many different reasons, sales, managing my team from a far, motivating my distributors. Communication has always been important, and I like to use it as much as I can.

However, I went even deeper into the study of communication, because it really touched my family. I decided to change my career and to become a coach. I had to learn even more. My husband and I were both working full time, we had two small children. It was very demanding, we were physically exhausted, with lots of insecurities and a lot of changes, and my husband and I don’t have the same mother tongue, he is German. We struggled, and we needed to make improvements.

I studied several different techniques, here’s a list of the ones that had the biggest impact on my life:

Non-Violent Communication(NVC)

Neuro Linguistic Programming(NLP)

Mindfulness Exercises

Emotional Intelligence Exercises

Noble Eightfold Path

Toltec Principles

Harvard Negotiations

The 5 Languages of Love

The Work - Katie Byron

All of these techniques have different aspects, however there are three major principles that stand out!

  1. Don’t Assume: Always try to find the truth because you think that you know but you can be mistaken. This tends to be the case far too often at home, so really make sure to find out what is really going on!

  2. Emotionally Connect: We are used to connecting on an intellectual level, however it is far more effective to connect on an emotional level. Our emotions explain our needs, and when we understand our emotions and those in front of us, we can truly understand what they need. Making it easier to find the right strategy.

  3. Acceptance: It is not easy, a lot of the struggle with communication can come from a lack of accepting.

Most importantly Be Patient. It is a process. Making these changes takes time, it won’t happen tomorrow, but try to put these ideas into action!

If you are interested in training your communication style, whatever that might be, just ask me, connect with me, I would be very pleased to discuss this with you. Have a very nice day, hopefully with good communication! 😊
